Frequently asked questions

Does removing metadata lower the quality?

No. JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF are rewritten without touching the image data, so every pixel is identical. HEIC and AVIF have to be re-encoded (HEIC becomes JPG at quality 92).

Will my photo turn sideways?

No. The orientation flag is the one tag that is kept, so photos stay the right way up everywhere.

What exactly is removed?

EXIF (GPS, camera, lens, dates, software, thumbnails), XMP, IPTC, comments, text chunks, maker notes and embedded extra images such as HDR gain maps.
