How to redact a PDF

Pick a quality (100/150/200 DPI). Every page is rendered to an image with the boxes painted black, then rebuilt into a new PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is the text really removed?
Yes. All pages are rasterised, which destroys the text layer everywhere, so the content under the black boxes cannot be recovered. The trade-off: the result is no longer searchable or selectable, and file size depends on the DPI you choose.
Why redact locally?
Because uploading a document to redact it defeats the purpose. Nothing leaves your browser.
Does it also remove metadata?
Yes. The output is a brand-new document; title, author and other metadata from the original are not carried over.
Can it find text on scanned pages?
No. Scans have no text layer, so Find returns nothing there; draw the boxes by hand instead.
